Community Driving School

Exciting new initiative, launched to benefit all generations in our local community

Community Driving School

Free lessons for learner drivers

Being able to drive changes lives. But unfortunately, not everyone has easy access to learning. That’s why we created The Community Driving School. Many potential learners struggle to afford to pay for private driving lessons, especially those on a low wage, the unemployed, young people and students. Our Community Driving School aims to give those the driving experience they need to hold a UK driving licence – without any of the normal costs - saving learner drivers hundreds of pounds with the use of a FREE community car and volunteer driving supervisors.

Driving lessons can cost a lot...

It takes around 45 hours of driving, plus 20 hours of private practice, to pass a driving test. When you consider an average lesson is £24, it can instantly price a lot of people out. That’s why The Community Driving School was created. It’s an ethical way to help the people of our community get behind the wheel.

Looking to learn? Here’s how it works:

Using a community car is absolutely free to you. As long as you cover the insurance (we can help you with low-cost insurance), you’re good to go. In just 3 quick steps you could be on the road, practising your skills: - Click the calendar and book the community car time slot that works for you - Check out the biographies of our vetted volunteer driver supervisors so you know who’d be the best match for you

Ready to help others learn to drive?

Lend your support to the community by helping learner drivers in your community obtain their UK driving license. The Community Driving School is a sustainable project, driven by the wonderful volunteers in our local community. It’s a way for experienced drivers to help and support learners to practice their driving skills. Maybe you’re retired, or have a few hours spare each week to donate to help our learner drivers achieve a UK driving license. If so, your support will help improve and change the lives of every learner driver you supervise. If you’re a community-spirited person who’s ready to give back to society and build strong local ties, join us as a supervisor. You don’t need to be a qualified instructor.
